Swindon woman who lost 12 stone on how to keep your resolutions

A Swindon woman who lost over 12 stone has shared her top tips on how people can keep their New Year's resolutions.
Sarah Jane Clark has been sharing health and wellbeing advice since starting her online weight loss support group 'Step by Step with Sarah Jane' in 2020.
She uses her experience of facing up to her food addiction to inspire others, having at one point weighed nearly 22 stone.
As many set themselves goals this January to lead healthier lifestyles in 2025, Sarah Jane is urging people to be realistic about what they can achieve.

Sarah-Jane said: "New Year's resolutions can be helpful providing people are realistic, as it can be overwhelming if you try and change everything all at once.
"Changing little things once at a time is how healthy habits become ingrained. People have really busy lives so it's important to be realistic about what you can actually fit in rather than aiming to go to the gym six times a week."

She also advises that a slow and steady approach to dieting is key to leading a healthy life.

"Small daily changes lead to permanent results, people who follow a fad diet will have stopped by February as a quick-fix solution doesn't address the emotional side of eating.
"Permanent weight loss is actually quite rare as if you deprive yourself too much you will eventually start binge-eating."
Having tried and failed to lose weight several times before finding the winning formula, Sarah Jane says simple things like going for walks in the evening and drinking water instead of coffee is what ultimately set her on the right path.
"I know through my lived experience that this is what works, as I've tried every diet under the sun.
She added: "Find something that you enjoy doing otherwise you'll never keep it up, whether that be taking part in team sports or putting some headphones on and going to the gym.
"Exercise should be a celebration of what our bodies can do, not a punishment for what we have eaten."

For people readying themselves to visit the gym for the first time, Sarah Jane says that it is completely normal to be anxious but that there is no need to be afraid.
